Major Paper 2

Dear Class,

For planning purposes, please note that Major Paper 2 will be an argument based on your theme assignment for The Color Purple.  You will need to develop a thesis based on your theme, and support it with evidence from the text.  The full prompt will be available on Monday.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend,

MTM

Friday, September 16

Dear Class,

A reminder that for Friday, you need to bring three things to class with you:

1) Your copy of The Color Purple.
2) Your copy of the Shanyn Fiske essay that I distributed in Wednesday's class.
3) A short (less than 500-word) summary of the Fiske essay that follows the requirements outlined in pages 57-66 in A Writer's Reference.

Please note that we will be reading the first letter of The Color Purple together in class.  As I mentioned, it contains a potentially upsetting description of a rape on the first page.  If you feel uncomfortable participating in Friday's class, please contact me and we will work something out.

Sincerely,

MTM

Readings for 9/7 and 9/9

Dear Class,

The Lamott reading for Wednesday, a funny article entitled "Shitty First Drafts" is available through eReserves.

For Friday, you need your Diana Hacker book (A Writer's Reference).  We will read pages 3-37 in Hacker, and you will also be expected to bring in a "shitty first draft" of Major Paper 1.

Hopefully we'll be able to make this experience fun!
